Tell Us About a Moment of Regrettable Rage

For an upcoming New York Times Style project that examines rage at this particular moment, we would like to hear about a time in the last few years when you or someone close to you erupted in a surprising outburst of anger — and then regretted it.

It could be a story of your spouse losing their cool in the airport security line, or a moment when you were shocked to find yourself yelling at a longtime friend.

In 100-200 words, please answer: What was the inciting incident? When and where did the outburst take place? Who or what was the anger directed at? And what was the aftermath? Did you or your loved one apologize or keep silent? Did you break up? Stop being friends? Seek treatment? See yourself or the other person in a new light? Did any realizations, conversations or changes come from the outburst?

By publishing a collection of these stories, we hope to illustrate how these uncertain, stressful and volatile times may have impacted peoples’ behavior and personal relationships.

We will not publish any part of your submission without contacting you first. If we are interested in learning more about your story, we will use your contact information to follow up with you.

Please submit your stories by 11:59 p.m. P.S.T. on Dec. 1, 2022.
